SUMMARY:Proposed Organizational Maturity Model for Building More Inclusive
  User Experiences
DESCRIPTION:Aaron Bangor (AT&T)\n\n“[D]esign begins with an understanding 
 of the user … [and] acknowledges human variability as a design parameter” 
 (National Research Council, 1983). While human factors, ergonomics, and us
 er experience (HF/E/UX) professionals easily recognize this as a core conc
 ept of our discipline, integrating the full implications of this precept i
 nto our daily work is an ongoing challenge. As one example of this challen
 ge of translating precept into outcomes, a simple analysis found that 95.9
 % of the top million Internet home pages detected accessibility issues tha
 t could create barriers to use by people with disabilities (WebAIM, 2024).
  One approach to advancing the overall capability and quality of deliverin
 g organizational-level results in an area is a maturity model. To help HF/
 E/UX professionals better direct their efforts and achieve results in crea
 ting more inclusive user experiences, this paper proposes a maturity model
  framework that can be adopted by organizations to assess current practice
  and advancements in this area. Practitioners and researchers alike are en
 couraged to use the framework and report their results and experiences.\n\
