SUMMARY:Decision Centered Design: An Interactive Mini Workshop

 cision Science, LLC; Unveil, LLC)\n\nDecision-Centered Design (DCD) is a c
 ognitive engineering framework that focuses on identifying tough decisions
  and cognitive challenges as drivers for prioritizing design decisions. DC
 D is based on concepts and methods posited by the Recognition-Primed Decis
 ion model and macrocognition. The team’s practice of DCD is also influence
 d by work-centered evaluation. DCD includes five stages: preparation, know
 ledge elicitation, analysis, design, and evaluation. We frequently use thi
 s framework to design in the context of envisioned world problems as we de
 velop solutions for situations in which roles, technologies, and tasks do 
 not yet exist. The framework is particularly valuable for developing syste
 ms in which humans will use or otherwise collaborate with rapidly evolving
  technology, e.g., artificial intelligence. The authors will conduct an al
 ternative format presentation in the form of a 90-minute interactive mini 
 workshop. In this session, the authors will provide an overview of DCD and
  its components and engage attendees in a series of interactive exercises 
 to experience the method. We will share our practical experiences implemen
 ting each stage and adapting the goals for individual projects. At the end
  of the session, attendees will be asked to reflect on their own work proj
 ects and consider how DCD may be useful in their efforts.\n\nTrack: Cognit
