SUMMARY:Improving Hypertension Self-Management through Mobile Health Digit
 al Coaching
DESCRIPTION:Jesus Carrillo Leal and Mustafa Demir (Texas A&M University), 
 Karim Zahed (American University of Beirut), and Farzan Sasangohar (Texas 
 A&M University)\n\nIn 2023, 1.28 billion people globally had hypertension,
  with the United States spending reaching approximately $219 billion annua
 lly on hypertension management. Digital healthcare interventions, particul
 arly mobile health (mHealth) solutions, have been proposed; yet, their eff
 ectiveness remains largely unexplored. Our research objective is to assess
  whether individuals with hypertension can enhance their self-management u
 sing autonomous mHealth tools that provide health coaching interventions o
 ver extended periods. A two-arm study was designed to evaluate the feasibi
 lity and clinical outcomes related to hypertension through an iOS platform
  called HyperCoach. Participants were randomly assigned to two conditions:
  the Intervention: received a 90-day health coaching plan, and the Control
 : did not receive coaching. Both groups tracked their health for an additi
 onal 180-days. We collected data on demographics, health literacy, self-me
 asured blood pressure (systolic and diastolic), weight, heart rate, and he
 alth beliefs. Data analysis used a linear mixed-effects model to assess th
 e effects of time, adherence, and condition on clinical outcomes. Particip
 ants with high adherence experienced a steady decline in systolic blood pr
 essure, whereas those with lower adherence showed inconsistent changes, su
 ggesting challenges in maintaining long-term benefits. This indicates impr
 oved clinical outcomes and highlights the importance of effective behavior
