SUMMARY:CANCELED - Analog Astronaut Self-Scheduling in NASA’s HERA Campaig

DESCRIPTION:John Karasinski and Jessica Marquez (NASA Ames Research Center
 )\n\nFuture deep space missions necessitate greater crew autonomy, includi
 ng self-scheduling, a capability not available in current spaceflight oper
 ations. Playbook, an interactive scheduling tool used in NASA’s Human Expl
 oration Research Analog (HERA), was the platform for this research. Prior 
 HERA Campaign 6 results showed a trend suggesting scheduling countermeasur
 es might improve self-scheduling. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate 
 the impact of "No-Go Zones" countermeasures within the Playbook user inter
 face on analog astronaut crews' self-scheduling performance and perceived 
 workload during HERA Campaign 7. Performance was assessed via time on task
 , number of activity movements, and number of constraint violations, while
  workload was measured using the NASA-TLX. Unexpectedly, the results indic
 ated that the presence of countermeasures was associated with significantl
 y poorer performance: increased time on task, more activity movements, and
  more violations. No significant impact on workload was observed. A learni
 ng effect was evident between scheduling sessions, and Mission Day signifi
 cantly influenced all outcome measures. Contrary to our findings from Camp
 aign 6, these findings demonstrate that the countermeasures led to a signi
 ficant reduction in self-scheduling performance during HERA Campaign 7.\n\
