DESCRIPTION:Cherrise Ficke, Dr. Stephanie Fussell, Dr. Adrian Flowers, and
  Dr. Summer Rebensky (Aptima, Inc)\n\nVR has been shown to improve knowled
 ge, psychomotor skills, and spatial task performance while safely simulati
 ng high-risk scenarios (Abich et al., 2021); however, scenarios that empha
 size visual phenomena can be affected by limitations in display technology
 , which may further complicate training due to the intricacies of the huma
 n visual system. Therefore, developing a simulator that is both physiologi
 cally accurate (to the underlying phenomena) and visually consistent with 
 the perceived experience can be extremely difficult. This is particularly 
 true when simulating visual events, illusions, and phenomena experienced b
 y pilots such as the after-effects of a laser strike, which directly impac
 t the visual perceptual system. To familiarize pilots with the hazardous e
 ffects of a laser strike, our team developed a VR simulation of the visual
  effects and potential mitigations towards laser dazzle events (LDEs). Thi
 s simulation models known effects of laser light exposure under varying li
 ghting conditions, using physics-based models for light bleaching and reco
 very. To ensure the models accurately reflect pilots’ experiences with las
 er strikes and LEP effects on color perception, a usability study was cond
 ucted to assess the simulation’s performance and gather feedback for refin
