SUMMARY:Measuring the impact of drone proximity on workers’ balance stabil
 ity in roofing tasks

 ilized in construction for inspection and progress monitoring tasks. Howev
 er, their presence also introduces visual and auditory stimuli that may di
 stract workers and impair motor control, thereby increasing the risk of fa
 lls, particularly when working at heights. This study examined the combine
 d impact of drone proximity and time pressure on the attention and balance
  stability of construction workers working at heights. Using a mixed-reali
 ty (MR) simulation of roofing tasks, researchers observed participants und
 er two drone approach distances (near and far) and two time-pressure condi
 tions (with and without time pressure). Results indicated that drones clos
 er to workers caused more distraction, but under time pressure, workers sh
 ifted attention to task completion, reducing drone-related distraction. Ho
 wever, time pressure increased instability, significantly affecting worker
 s' posture, as demonstrated by higher pressure on the feet. Findings highl
 ight that drone proximity and time pressure jointly influence worker safet
 y by altering attention and physical balance. This research offers critica
 l insights for the safe integration of drones into construction environmen
 ts, informing guidelines to mitigate drone-induced risks during high-altit
 ude tasks. Future studies should explore the psychological and physiologic
 al mechanisms involved to further enhance worker safety.\n\n
