SUMMARY:Assessing the Convergent Validity of the 3- and 5-Minute Psychomot
 or Vigilance Tasks in Occupational Settings

 or Vigilance Task (PVT-10) has been the gold standard to assess sustained 
 attention. The PVT-10 may be challenging in certain settings, hence shorte
 r PVTs may be required.  This study assessed the convergent validity of th
 ree- (PVT-3), five-PVT (PVT-5) and PVT-10 across multiple days in a natura
 listic setting using repeated measures correlations. PVT-10 data was gathe
 red from a sample of 70 offshore workers on consecutive workdays and the s
 horter PVTs were extracted from PVT-10. There were strong correlations for
  minor PVT score probability, minor lapse probability, minor PVT score, mi
 nor lapses, median reaction time, mean response speed, mean reaction times
 , major lapse probability, major lapses, major PVT score probability and s
 lowest 10% response speed across all three PVT durations. Slowest 10% reac
 tion times, fastest 10% reaction times, false start and false start probab
 ility showed strong correlations between PVT-5 and PVT-10 but not between 
 PVT-3 and PVT-10. Fastest 10% response speed did not share show strong cor
 relations between the shorter PVTs and PVT-10. These findings suggest that
  some PVT-3 and PVT-5 metrics may be useful for tracking changes in vigila
 nce in occupational settings where the PVT-10 may not be applicable.\n\n
