SUMMARY:From Package to Play: Out-of-Box Experience of the PlayStation Acc
 ess™ Controller
DESCRIPTION:Carmen Van Ommen (Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University)\n\nThi
s study investigates the Out-of-Box Experience (OOBE) of the PlayStation A
ccess™ controller. Fifteen participants with varying levels of motor impai
rment experience (no motor impairment, caregivers of those with motor impa
irments, and participants with motor impairments) were recruited from a un
iversity. Participants were asked for their first impressions of the conce
pt of the box, and while unboxing, setting up the controller, and playing
a video game. Overall, participants found the packaging easy to open, espe
cially with inclusion of features focusing on accessibility. Participants
also found the controller easy to use and customize, and found the instruc
tions easy to understand. There was room for improvement in indicating tha
t the controller could be used wirelessly, and in explaining PlayStation b
uttons or terms to those with little experience. Additionally, instruction
s could be improved by adding an indication of how far along the user is i
n the set up process, what aspects they would set up and when, and allow f
or orientation to be customized earlier on.\n\n
