 )\n\nObstetric medicine is a complex and variability healthcare system. Du
 e to the unique nature of providing simultaneous care to multiple patients
 , obstetric medicine can benefit from systems and resilience engineering m
 ethods. The objective of this study is to investigate how systems and resi
 lience engineering methods have previously been applied to surgical enviro
 nments within the United States. Synthesizing the existing literature from
  the healthcare community will allow us to identify future research opport
 unities within obstetric medicine, specifically labor and delivery. This s
 tudy seeks to understand how principles of systems engineering and resilie
 nce engineering methods can be applied to healthcare environments beyond n
 on-surgical care environments and provider well-being in order to design n
 ovel approaches to gather provider feedback about their work. Designing to
 ols that accurately capture provider feedback will help key healthcare sta
 keholders close the gap between “work-as-imagined” and “work-as-done” with
  the intent on improving patient safety and clinician performance.\n\n
