Dr Alfredo M. Carbonell is Vice Chairman of Academic Affairs for the Department of Surgery at Prisma Health-Upstate and a Professor of Surgery at the University of South Carolina School of
Medicine – Greenville. Dr Carbonell specializes in minimally invasive and robotic surgery with an
emphasis on benign disorders of the esophagus, complex hernia, and abdominal wall diseases. He is a past-president of the Americas Hernia Society and is a reviewer and editorial board member for various journals. He has published over 100 articles and book chapters related to the field of minimally invasive surgery and hernia disease. Dr Carbonell received his D.O. medical degree from the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1997.
