Biography
Dr. Samantha Bernstein is a dedicated educator and researcher specializing in maternal and child health, with a focus on human factors and patient safety in obstetric care. As Assistant Professor at the MGH Institute of Health Professions, Dr. Bernstein teaches Nursing of the Childbearing Family to prelicensure nursing students. Her research uses SEIPS to examine systems-level factors influencing maternal morbidity and mortality, particularly the role of registered nurses in identifying and responding to clinical deterioration in obstetric patients. Using a human factors lens, her work aims to identify opportunities in healthcare systems and develop strategies to improve patient outcomes and safety. Additionally, she is an Internationally Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and serves on the editorial board of MCN: The American Journal of Maternal/Child Nursing.
