Melanie Fowler
Biography
Melanie Lee Fowler is a PhD student in the Department of Industrial and Management Systems Engineering at West Virginia University, specializing in Occupational Safety and Health. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems Management from Fairmont State University and a Master of Science in Safety Management from WVU. She is also a Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
Melanie currently serves as a Public Health Advisor with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the Global Immunization Division, Global Health Center. Previously, she worked with the CDC’s National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) in the Division of Safety Research, where she conducted investigations into motor vehicle fatalities involving law enforcement officers. Her current research builds upon that work, focusing on motor vehicle safety in law enforcement—specifically the behavioral and systemic factors influencing seat belt usage.
Her interdisciplinary background in safety, public health, and systems engineering informs her efforts to develop practical, evidence-based interventions aimed at reducing occupational fatalities.
