Michael C. Dorneich received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Champaign, IL, USA, in 1995, and the Ph.D. degree in industrial engineering in 1999. From 1999 to 2012, he was a Research Scientist with Honeywell Laboratories. He is a Morrill Professor and the Joseph Walkup Professor with the Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering Department, Iowa State University, Ames, IA, USA, and Faculty in the Human–Computer Interaction (HCI) Graduate Program. He is the author of more than 220 articles and 27 patents. His research interests focus on creating adaptive joint human–machine systems that enable people to be effective in complex environments. He is an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions of Human-Machine Systems and an Editorial Board Member of the Journal of Cognitive Engineering and Decision Making. Dr. Dorneich is a member of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society. He was a recipient of the Outstanding Engineer Award at Honeywell in 2011, the IMSE Research Excellence Award in 2019, and the Federal Aviation Administration’s PEGASAS Jimenez Research/Faculty Award in 2022.
