Amrita Maguire is a Senior Principal User Interface Engineer at Dell, where she also serves as a Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff in their Technical Leadership Community (TLC). Amrita has played a pivotal role in transforming customer experiences in data center infrastructural hardware through extensive research and implementation of user insights. Amrita is an HF/E subject-matter expert, contributing to standards related to data center infrastructure design and user interface engineering. She has authored numerous Dell usability engineering specifications. Contributed to over thirty IT infrastructure launches. She implemented best-in-class usability in seven Dell rugged and business-client laptops. She currently chairs the ISO 159 SC5 committee. Amrita has been granted 10 U.S. Dell patents, with eight more patents pending.
Before joining Dell, Amrita spent seven years as a Platform Lead Ergonomist at General Motors (GM). At GM, she focused on the proactive design and integration of ergonomic tools and processes across seven unionized assembly plants in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. As a Plant Ergonomist in a GM metal fabrication facility for six years, she was instrumental in reducing OSHA-recordable injuries and illnesses through ergonomic, engineering, and other interventions.
A passionate and committed volunteer, Amrita served as 2024 chair for the Usability and Systems Evaluation Technical Group (USE TG) and led the development of the HFES BIPOC mentor circle. She facilitated the charter and conversion of the HFES Sustainability Task Force to the HFES Sustainability Technical Group (SUS TG), where she currently serves as TG Program Chair. She has ten peer-reviewed publications.
Amrita holds a Master of Science degree in Bioengineering from Texas A&M University and a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from the University of Mumbai (Bombay), India. She is a board-certified UX professional.
