Dr. Hye-Chung Kum is a Professor in Health Policy & Management with courtesy appointments in Computer Science & Engineering and Industrial & Systems Engineering. With a PhD in data mining and an MSW in policy and management, she has over 25 years of experience leading interdisciplinary teams and pioneering research in record linkage, information privacy, population informatics, telemonitoring, telemedicine, liver cancer, and Medicaid. She founded and currently leads the Population Informatics Lab focusing on an emerging research area at the intersection of domain science (social, behavioral, economic, and health sciences), data science and AI to build efficient and effective human computer hybrid processes and systems to clean, integrate, and extract actionable information from raw chaotic data and deliver the information in a timely secure manner to decision makers (e.g. researchers, policy makers, managers, clinicians). She has been funded by NSF, NIH, PCORI, NIOSH, National Academies (NASEM), RWJF, USDA, North Carolina-DHHS, and Texas HHSC with over 100 publications in top tier journals such as Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association, Journal of medical Internet research, Proceedings of the 2018 CHI conference on human factors in computing systems, Symposium on Usable Privacy and Security, IEEE Computer , SIAM International Conference on Data Mining, Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, and Children and Youth Services Review.
