Bethany Lowndes

Biography
Bethany Lowndes, PhD, MPH, CPE is an Associate Professor in the Department of Neurological Sciences at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. She also serves as the Sceintific Director of the Innovation Design Unit and the Human Factors Safety Engineer with Nebraska Medicine. Through her work in these roles, she focuses on translational and applied research through human-centered design to improve health care delivery. As a human factors engineer and certified professional ergonomist, she strives to design, and implement work systems to promote sustainable workload, efficient workflow, safety, and well-being. To achieve these goals, she has extensive experience with and knowledge of the measurement and design of systems to optimize the interactions among the human workers and the components of the system. This work has fostered collaboration with clinicians, engineers, and other research scientists on interprofessional and transdisciplinary projects. As a team scientist, Dr. has led and collaborated on projects funded through NIOSH, AHRQ, NIH, and industry. Through her current research, she is leading a team in the measurement and improvement of interactions between healthcare providers, patients, caregivers, technology and the built environment in order to advance health across different levels of care and improve the health and wellbeing of the clinicians.
