Dr. Kumar has a PhD in Industrial Engineering. His areas of specialty include product design and development (medical products and healthcare), ergonomics, human factors, work measurement and analysis, lean manufacturing, production/operations management, and safety. He has conducted industry and government funded ergonomic and industrial engineering related research (leading to publications in journals and conference proceedings) in the healthcare setting, medical device manufacturers, manufacturing, aerospace and furniture industries. The work from some projects has resulted in development of innovative products such as the Zody Chair from Haworth, and Stairchairs with tracks from Stryker Medicals. He also has consulting experience in health care, aerospace, automobile, call centers, electronic manufacturing, food processing, furniture manufacturing and distribution, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, plastics manufacturing, retail, small and large assembly, transportation, U.S. government, and warehousing. He has also provided litigation support for several FLSA, railroad cases (FELA) and “Suitable Seating” cases
