Rammohan Maikala
Biography
Dr. Ram Maikala has been a Subject Matter Expert and Program Technical Consultant for the National Safety Council’s MSD Solutions Lab since November 2021, advancing workplace ergonomics and safety through innovative MSD prevention initiatives. Previously, he worked as a Senior Injury Prevention and Ergonomics Program Specialist at Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett, Washington, for seven years (October 2014-October 2021). At Providence, Ram taught and trained hospital staff on safe patient handling and mobility. Ram also provided ergonomics and safety risk assessments and mitigation strategies to Providence staff in multiple hospitals and medical clinics in different counties in the state of Washington. Before he worked for Providence, Ram was a Research Scientist for 12.9 years at the Center for Physical Ergonomics, Liberty Mutual Research Institute for Safety in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, USA. Ram’s research focused on Work Physiology and Human Performance impacted by Musculoskeletal disorders for almost two decades using various non-invasive physiological modalities.
Ram is the current editor-in-chief of Ergonomics in Design, a quarterly peer-reviewed design periodical for the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society. Ram is a past president of the Puget Sound Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (2016-2018) and The International Society for Occupational Ergonomics & Safety (2016-2017).
Ram has a Doctoral degree in Rehabilitation Science from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada, a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering with special emphasis on Ergonomics and Safety Engineering from West Virginia University, Morgantown, West Virginia, and a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from Osmania University, Telangana, India.
Ram is inducted into the 2023 Class of Fellows of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society and also a 2022 Science Policy Fellow of the Human Factors and Ergonomic Society.
