Development of a Scalable Data Acquisition System for Multimodal Physiological Data for Human Factors Research

DescriptionAs human-automation interactions grow in complexity, it is important to capture the operators’ behavior in real time to then adapt the automation when the operator reaches a state of potential cognitive overload or underload. The objective of this work is to demonstrate a scalable data acquisition system for multimodal physiological data collection that can be used to capture data in real time quickly in human factors research. Our data collection system has been utilized in several experimental studies to capture the operator’s physiological state in real time, and this data may be used in Bayesian analytical models that can then predict future cognitive state to inform the toggling of adaptive automation systems.
