Updating the Function Allocation Technical Bases and Regulatory Guidance for Nuclear Power Plants
SessionPoster Session 2
DescriptionAs part of a larger effort to support guidance development for reviewing advanced reactor license applications, Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is engaged in research with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to update the guidance for reviewing Function Allocation (FA) as part of the NRC’s human factors engineering (HFE) program review. This poster and accompanying 5-page paper will describe this research, including a description of how the topic of FA is characterized, and discusses the strengths and weaknesses of FA methods for application to modern reactor designs. This may benefit both safety and efficiency in terms of how FA is performed and reviewed, as well as support the design, analysis, and deployment of advanced automation technologies.
