Users Willingness to Use Healthcare Chatbot and its Perceived Impact on Health Self-Management: A Survey Study
DescriptionAI chatbots are increasingly popular, but their application in healthcare requires careful consideration due to the sensitive nature of health services. Understanding the factors that influence users’ perceptions of healthcare chatbots is crucial for ensuring their effective adoption and optimizing their role in health service delivery. In this study, we conducted an online survey to identify specific beliefs and perspectives associated with users’ willingness to use healthcare chatbots and its perceived usefulness for health self-management. Among 57 participants, results indicated that a willingness to use healthcare chatbots was positively associated with experiencing less tension compared to clinician interactions, using chatbots to prepare questions before medical appointments, and a willingness to recommend them to others. Views on health self-management using healthcare chatbots were tied to prior AI experience, data accuracy, time efficiency, and post-appointment use. These insights provide designers and developers with a nuanced understanding of user needs, enabling them to better address expectations and enhance user experience, satisfaction, and sustainable adoption.
