Exploring the Impact of Work System Context on Workforce Productivity
DescriptionWorkforce productivity isn’t just about how hard people work—it’s about how well the work system supports them. This presentation explores how various internal and external factors influence productivity in the workplace, drawing on a study conducted in Iran’s educational sector. Using the Healthcare Professional Performance (HCP) model as a framework, we examine how task design, leadership, workplace policies, economic instability, and even national-level issues like inflation and corruption impact employee performance and well-being. The findings reveal that while individual effort and organizational design matter, broader economic and administrative conditions have the strongest effect on productivity. This research provides fresh insight into how work system design—both inside and outside an organization—can support or hinder performance. Attendees will gain practical strategies for identifying barriers to productivity and implementing more resilient, people-centered systems. The session is especially relevant for those working in ergonomics, organizational design, human factors, or policy, offering a more holistic understanding of workforce challenges in complex environments.
