Designing a Respiratory Health Application: A Multi-level Stakeholder Analysis
DescriptionThis study elicited feedback from respiratory health professionals and patients for their preferences for a respiratory healthcare application and used the feedback to design an early prototype of the application. This study implemented a user-centered design and a multi-level stakeholder approach by conducting interviews with both respiratory health care providers and respiratory care patients. The interviews covered topics such as remote patient monitoring experiences, application preferences, and feedback on early application and hardware designs. Some desired sections of the app included historical data, communication between provider and patient, questionnaires and technical support. Desired features included health measures, critical level alerts, medicine tracking and air quality information. Based on these pieces of feedback, an early prototype was developed for subsequent testing. This work highlights the importance of understanding users’ thoughts, preferences and feedback in designing a custom tool to fit their needs, from a multi-level stakeholder basis (i.e., users and administrators). Future work will entail the testing and iterative design of this prototype to better match the needs and preferences of the patient population, while being informed by the practical nature of the healthcare professionals who will also interface with the application.
