Crisis Intervention Training with AI-Driven XR Simulations: Enhancing Empathetic Skills
SessionPoster Session 2
DescriptionCrisis situations often demand more than quick decision-making—they require empathy. This project introduces an AI-driven Virtual reality (VR) training simulation designed to help first responders, especially law enforcement officers, practice de-escalating high-stress encounters. Trainees interact with an AI-powered virtual person in a lifelike VR scenario based on real events, such as a suicidal individual in distress. Using speech recognition and emotional feedback, the AI adapts in real time, allowing users to practice communication strategies and receive personalized feedback on their tone, empathy, and effectiveness. Built in Unreal Engine and running on Meta Quest 3, this system enables scalable, repeatable training without the cost and limitations of traditional role-play. Preliminary expert evaluations suggest the tool holds promise as a flexible and immersive alternative to conventional training. This poster showcases how combining generative AI and immersive simulation can transform professional development in crisis response, preparing trainees to respond with both confidence and compassion.
