Revisiting Technology Adoption Frameworks: Insights for Smart Home Systems
SessionPoster Session 1
DescriptionNew, complicated, ubiquitous systems cannot be adequately explained by traditional adoption frameworks. This research evaluates seven renowned models (Technology Acceptance Model, Theory of Planned Behavior, Model of PC Utilization, Perceived Characteristics of Innovation, Social Cognitive Theory, Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology, and Technology Readiness Index) to explore the need for updated predictive elements that accurately reflect the complexities of adopting technologies in both private and shared spaces, such as homes. Our methodology involved adapting existing standardized survey items from these seven models with minimal modifications, as assessed by three experts, and enriching them with new items derived from a series of interviews. The comprehensive questionnaire will be distributed to users of smart home systems. The analysis will employ structural equation modeling to assess the predictive capabilities of the current models and potentially introduce a new model that can explain the complexities of smart home technology adoption.
