CANCELED - Human–AI Collaboration in Creative Problem-Solving: Impacts of Team Composition and AI Access

DescriptionOrganizations across sectors—business, healthcare, and defense—are increasingly relying on AI to tackle high-stakes, time-sensitive problems (Boussioux et al., 2024). Although AI can quickly sift through data to propose potentially useful solutions (Haase & Pokutta, 2024; Zaglmann et al., 2024), it may also reinforce established approaches and limit breakthroughs (Osborn, 1953). Team-based problem-solving can boost solution quality through collaboration (Diehl & Stroebe, 1987; Hargadon & Bechky, 2006), but groups risk overreliance on AI or groupthink (Runco & Jaeger, 2012; Colton & Wiggins, 2012). In this study, we investigated how AI access (available vs. unavailable) and team composition (individual vs. dyadic) jointly affect three dimensions of creativity: Originality (the novelty of an idea), Effectiveness (how well it solves the problem), and Implementability (the feasibility of putting it into practice).
