Gait Tracking and Loneliness Reduction in Individuals With Visual Disabilities
SessionPoster Session 1
DescriptionThis study evaluated whether an in-home Kinect-based gait-tracking system could contribute to reducing loneliness in individuals with visual disabilities. Participants received walking feedback via screen reader software. Compared to non-users and sighted users, those with visual disabilities reported significantly lower loneliness. The findings suggest that motion-sensing technologies may support emotional well-being by fostering autonomy and self-awareness, particularly among individuals facing mobility-related barriers to social connection.
