Charting New Frontiers in Cognitive Security: A Human Factors Call to Action
DescriptionFor the second year in a row, the World Economic Forum's Global Risks Report (2025) identifies propagandistic and deceptive content as the leading threat to global stability. The internet and social media have become primary sources of information but also bring increasing risks of increased proliferation of false content. Addressing these challenges requires an interdisciplinary approach that integrates human factors, neuroscience, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies. This panel convenes leading experts to examine cognitive security from multiple perspectives highlighting the mechanisms that make individuals and institutions susceptible to information threats, novel interventions, and ways for the HF community to respond. As propaganda tactics evolve, so too must our strategies for defending against them with an increased HF/E focus.
