Does Human Factors Need Open Science?

DescriptionWidespread concerns about unreliable findings, unreproducible results, and questionable research methods have sparked a push for greater transparency in scientific work, leading to what is now known as the open science movement. Adoption of open science practices in human factors, however, has been limited, for reasons that are unclear. Is there less need for reform in human factors? Do we face unique barriers to the adoption of open science? Or might the open science movement be inherently misguided? By examining these questions, this panel aims to spark a critical conversation on whether, why, and how our discipline should embrace openness and transparency.
