Human Factors and Ergonomics Education Through an Entrepreneurial and Engineering Management Mindset

DescriptionThis presentation explores how Human Factors and Ergonomics (HFE) education can be enhanced by integrating an entrepreneurial and engineering management mindset. Rather than focusing solely on technical content, students are encouraged to be curious, make meaningful connections, and create value, the core elements of the Entrepreneurial Mindset (EM). The presenter designed and improved three Engineering Management courses: Human Factors, Measuring User Experience, and Work Analysis and Design to include EM-driven activities and projects. These assignments challenged students to apply HFE principles while also thinking critically about project management, innovation, and real-world impact. Early results show that students were more engaged, curious, and approached projects better. This session will offer simple and effective teaching strategies for educators who want to bring EM into HFE courses.
