A Computational Cognitive Model of the Vigilance Decrement
SessionPP2: Vigilance
DescriptionThe vigilance decrement is a central topic in human factors research but has not yet given way to a clear theoretical understanding. Resource depletion theory, the most popular account of the effect, at best provides a qualitative model of vigilance performance. The current study reports a computational account of the vigilance decrement, building on a dynamic cognitive model of signal detection. The model reproduces supposed benchmark patterns of resource depletion, but without incorporating a depletion process.
