Design and Development of Point-and-Click Serious Games for the Prevention of Musculoskeletal Disorders
SessionOE8: Effort and Fatigue
DescriptionMusculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are a major workplace health issue, often linked to repetitive movements and poor postures. Traditional MSD prevention efforts frequently suffer from low engagement and limited long-term impact. This study presents the design and development of Safe@Work, a point-and-click serious game created to raise awareness and promote MSD prevention among workers. Developed with input from ergonomists and game developers, Safe@Work features interactive, scenario-based learning where players analyze work conditions, identify risks, and propose ergonomic solutions. The game covers key risk factors, including repetitive strain, awkward postures, and prolonged static work, offering real-world relevance without requiring specialized equipment. By combining accessible gameplay with structured educational content, the game provides an engaging alternative to conventional training. Early expert feedback suggests Safe@Work enhances knowledge retention and active worker participation in MSD prevention efforts. Future research will focus on large-scale testing and refinement based on user experiences.
