Enhancing Electric Vehicle Emergency Responses Through A Virtual Reality Training System
DescriptionElectric vehicles (EVs) are equipped with high-voltage lithium-ion batteries that present unique risks in accident scenarios, including electrical shocks and potential fires or toxic fume emissions due to thermal runaway and chemical reactions within the battery cells. Traditional training programs for first responders are often inadequate in preparing them for these specific challenges. This study developed a VR-based training system and conducted experiments with both students and firefighters to assess the effectiveness of the VR training method compared to other traditional training methods, such as text-based and video-based learning. This study explored whether VR could improve knowledge acquisition for EV emergency response scenarios and investigated the impact of each training method on long-term knowledge retention, and how participants perceive the usability and engagement of VR training compared to other traditional training methods.
