CANCELED - Exploring the Relationship Between Gait Parameters and Gross Metabolic Cost in Older Adults
DescriptionGait and metabolic cost are critical factors influencing mobility and energy efficiency in aging populations, yet their interplay remains underexplored. This study investigates the relationship between spatiotemporal gait features and metabolic costs in older adults. Our findings reveal that increased gait variability, such step length and stride velocity, is significantly associated with higher reserve metabolic cost, indicating that stability plays a key role in energy efficiency. Additionally, compensatory gait strategies, such as prolonged double support phases, further contribute to elevated metabolic demands. These findings highlight the importance of targeting gait stability and reducing variability to enhance energy efficiency and mobility in aging populations, paving the way for future research and interventions designed to promote independence and improve quality of life.
