Rewarding Trust: How Reward Power Shapes Security Robot Acceptance
DescriptionAs security robots assume broader societal functions, public resistance and skepticism can compromise their effectiveness. This study investigates the impact of reward power on public acceptance and trust in security robots, addressing the critical challenge of integrating these robots into community settings. Employing a between-subjects experimental design with 106 participants, the study examined the effects of high versus low reward power in security robots through online video interactions. Results revealed that reward power significantly influenced the acceptance of security robots by promoting trust. The study contributes to human-security-robot interaction literature by highlighting the role of robot reward power in shaping trust and acceptance, demonstrating the dynamic interplay between these factors, and offering design guidelines for enhancing public trust and acceptance. These findings are crucial for deploying security robots in real-world environments where public cooperation is essential.
