Beyond the Table: Anchored Positional Responding Approach for Identifying and Measuring Inherent Issues in Individual Decision-Making during Focus Groups
DescriptionFocus Groups are often prone to adverse group effects, such as conformity and dominance, which can negatively impact data validity and trustworthiness. In this study, we introduce an alternative approach – Anchored Positional Responding (APR) – that utilizes the Anchoring Effect to identify adverse group effects. In the APR approach, participants are first required to physically position themselves within a room-sized replicated Likert Scale (as external anchors) in response to a given question prompt, then proceed to respond verbally.
