AI-Assisted Mixed Reality Training for Lumbar Puncture: A Hands-on Demonstration
SessionDemonstrations 2
DescriptionThis demonstration presents an AI-assisted Mixed Reality (MR) training system designed to teach medical students how to perform lumbar puncture, a high-stakes procedure requiring precision and confidence. Built for the Apple Vision Pro, the system overlays step-by-step 3D procedural guidance on a physical manikin, enabling immersive, hands-on practice. A built-in AI assistant answers questions and offers contextual guidance during the procedure, reducing reliance on in-person instruction and allowing students to train independently. Through visual overlays, spoken explanations, and interactive prompts, learners develop both technical and spatial understanding of the procedure. By combining AI and MR, this prototype provides a scalable, consistent, and accessible training solution, especially valuable in settings with limited staff or remote learners. Attendees will experience the system firsthand and explore how MR and generative AI can enhance the future of medical skills training.
